| Vidyanikethan is working in the rural and
urban areas, villages and towns in two states of Karnataka and
Tamil Nadu to initiate and sustain, preventive as well as
proactive, home and community based health care to improve the
health and well-being of families. As a result, it has been able
to improve access to adequate basic health care facilities,
create awareness about key health related issues, and modernize
traditional beliefs and practices while retaining the
traditional wisdom. It addresses key issues such as women's pre
and post natal care, unsafe child delivery practices, unsafe
sexual practices and lack of adequate family planning methods
affect women and children significantly. The impact of
Vidyanikethan's interventions have reduced incidences of
maternal deaths during deliveries, foetal and infant mortality,
adoption of family planning methods, and increase in checks up
to detect sexual infections and HIV, and early deformities among
children. |
